Konan High School (Okinawa) 10 - 0 Ogaki Nichidai High School (Gifu)
The big bats of Okinawa, with Dr. K in the driver’s seat was a combination too powerful for the underdog from Gifu, as Konan High School on friday punched their ticket to the championship game with Nichidaisan to be played on Saturday. Tornado thrower Yosuke Shimabukuro went 7 innings allowing only 2 hits and a walk while striking out 6. He was helped by some power in the line-up. Catcher Yamakawa was 3 for 5 with a huge shot over the right field wall of Koshien stadium 2nd inning. 3B Ganeko continued his torrid hitting going 2 for 4, and is now batting 12 for 17 in the tournament for a jaw-dropping batting average of .706.

4/1/10 was the day for the semi-finals fo the 2010 Japanese high school Senbatsu turnament. Here is a recap of the action:
Koryo High School (Hiroshima) vs Nichidaisan High School (Tokyo)
Nichidaisan overcame poor pitching late in the game, but got to rest their ace pitcher and add another day to the rest due to rain as they beat Kohei Arihara, Tatsuya Maruko and Koryo to advance to the championship. It was a sloppy game in the mud, but Nichidaisan pitcher Sachiya Yamasaki did enough to get by, going 4 innings yeilding 4 hits, 3 walks and 1 K in the slop, rain and wind. Kohei Arihara felt the fatigue of going against 140 batters in 5 days, and simply broke down in the 8th inning. His final numbers were 7 1/3 IP, 13 H, 7 K, 5 BB, 7 ER. Overall in the tournament he still had good numbers, but could not hold out today. Monster 1B Tatsuya Maruko was 1 for 4 with a home run and Nichidai 2B Tsturo Ogihara was 2 for 5 with a blast over the center field wall. Here are Yamasaki and Arihara’s numbers for the whole tournament:
| Pitcher | IP | H | K | BB | ER | G | CG | SH | ERA | WHIP | H/9 | K/9 | BB/9 | K/BB |

top tournament pitchign prospect Kohei Arihara was sharp on the mound again, vaulting his Koryo High School team to the quarterfinals with a 4 hit, 2 walk, 7 strike out performance to add to his impressive tournament totals. Koryo got help from monster 1B Tatsuya Maruko, who was 2 for 5. 2B Fukuda was 2 for 3 and OF Kuramasu was 2 for 4. Chukyo pitcher Junpei Morimoto was battered by the Koryo bats early and often. This time he threw a complete game shut-out against the tournament favorites of Teikyo High School to propel Okinawa’s Konan High School to the final four. Shimabukuro alloed 5 hits, walked 5 and “only” struck out 7, but it was good enough. Okinawa 3B Ganeko is a monster at the plate. He was 2 for 4 on Wednesday and OF Kedashiro was 3 for 4. Teikyo gave pitcher Takuro Ito a rest, starting Suzuki, but he was tagged and chased out in the 7th inning.

Teikyo High School (Tokyo) 3 - 2 Mie High School (Mie)
In yet another pitching duel, top pitching prospect Takuro ito of Teikyo High School and Mie High School’s Daiki Masuda faced off on Tuesday at Koshien Stadium in Osaka, Japan. Masuda held the big Teikyo bats to one run until the bottom of the 9th inning, when Teikyo SS Matsumoto got on and scored the tying run off of catcher Yasuo’s sacrifice.
In the bottom of the 10th the Teikyo bats were too much for lowly regarded Masuda, as he allowed a triple, hit a batter and a single to start off and from there 1B Naoto Shimada knocked in the winning run. Ito went 10 innings giving up 8 hits and a walk. He struck out 6 and earned 2 runs. Masuda went 9 innings yeilding 13 hits, 2 walks and 3 runs while striking out 5.
So far in the tournament, Takuro Ito has been very impressive but not striking out as many batters as one would expect:
| Pitcher | IP | H | K | BB | ER | G | CG | SH | ERA | WHIP | H/9 | K/9 | BB/9 | K/BB |
| Ito | 19 | 13 | 15 | 3 | 4 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 1.89 | 0.84 | 6.16 | 7.11 | 1.42 | 5.00 |
Ogaki Nichidai High School (Gifu) 6 - 2 Osaka Toin High School (Osaka)
Ogaki pitcher Yukiya Kassai pitched his second complete game win in a row, taking out the big bats of Osaka Toin as Ogaki becomes a very unlikely final 8 team in the tournament. Ogaki OF Ando and catcher Tokimoto both had home runs. Tokimoto is hitting .429 for the tournament. Kassai is having a great tournament as seen below:
| Pitcher | IP | H | K | BB | ER | G | CG | SH | ERA | WHIP | H/9 | K/9 | BB/9 | K/BB |
| Kassai | 19 | 14 | 18 | 6 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0.95 | 1.05 | 6.63 | 8.53 | 2.84 | 3.00 |
Hokusho High School (Hokkaido) 5 - 4 Jiyugaoka (Fukuoka)
Highly touted pitcher Yomoya Matano was cruising through 4 innings and had a 3-0 lead when his coach inexplicably pulled from the game. His back-up promptly surrendered three runs on his first 10 pitches, putting Hokusho on the ropes. They held on, however, with hits in the bottom of the 9th from 2B Kimura and catcher Nishida. The Hokusho manager will have to think twice before thinking about pulling Matano again. Matano is having a great tournament as seen below:
| Pitcher | IP | H | K | BB | ER | G | CG | SH | ERA | WHIP | H/9 | K/9 | BB/9 | K/BB |
| Matano | 13 1/3 | 8 | 15 | 4 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 0.00 | 0.90 | 5.41 | 10.15 | 2.71 | 3.75 |

Koryo High Scho, Ganekool's Tatsuya Sanda on Monday 3/29/10 (asahi.com)
After a pitching duel for 8 1/2 innings, Koryo High School’s Tatsuya Sanda knocked in the run that won the game in the bottom of the 9th, carrying Koryo to a 1-0 win. The game was a pitching duel throughout. Koryo pitcher Kohei Arihara, one of the top pro prospects in the tournament, pitched a complete game shut-out. He had a perfect game going into the 5th inning and finished 9IP 2 hits, 2 walks and 10 strikeouts. His counterpart, Tomohiro Hamada, pitched valiantly for under-matched Miyazakiko High School. Hamada ended up going 8IP, 8 hits, 4 walks, 5 strikeouts and 1 earned run. Highly regarded Koryo 1B Tatsuya Maruko was held to 1 for 4.
Chukyodai Chukyo High School (Aichi) 2 - 1 Shinko High School (Hyogo)
2009 Koshine Champion Chukyodai Chukyo High School barely got by a frisky Shinko high School team on Monday 2-1. SS Kawamoto got on and OF Ogiso knocked him in to go up 2-1 and Chukyo never looked back. The story of the game was the pitching duel between Chukyo pitcher Junpei Morimoto and the less hyped Shiko pitcher Masashi Maenaka. Morimoto went 9 innings giving up 6 hits, 3 walks and striking out 9. Maenaka was also impressive going 9 innings giving up 7 hits, 3 walks and notching 4 Ks. Chukyo will face Kohei Arihara and Koryo high School on Wednesday.
Konan high School (Okinawa) 7 - 2 Chiben Wakayama High School (Wakayama)
Chiben coach had to pick between the steady pitcher who got him through the year or the flashy youngster who tossed a shut-out in the first round. He chose the steady pitcher Yoshimoto, and it worked until he decided to put the youngster, Fujii, in the game in the 5th inning where he promptly surrendered the 2-1 lead and Chiben never recovered.
Konan 3B Ganeko continued swinging a blistering bat, going 5 for 5 and lifting his tournament average to .889 as Konan High School pounded Chiben Wakayama High School 7-2 on Monday. Highly touted pitching prospect Yosuke Shimabukuro was shaky, but still managed to strike out 11 batters and allowed only 2 runs to one of the most potent line-ups in Japan. Shimabukuro held the Chiben bats of 1B Yamamoto and catcher Michibata in check all day. Konan will face the winner between Teikyo and Mie.
