Japanese darling Yu Darvish finally leads in a category in this newsletter, leading all Japanese starting pitchers with a remarkable 1.56 ERA. He trails Kenta Maeda in almost all other categories including WHIP.

Rookie Shigeru Kaga and Hideaki Wakui have both made recent pushes and brought their numbers way down as of late. Wakui has finally taken over most stats rankings among his own Seibu rotation.

As for relievers, I hope you have gotten used to seeing at least two of the three SoftBank relievers on each and every list put out. Either Falkenborg, Mahara or Settsu appear in every stat ranking possible. Most of the relievers here are closers but Brian Falkenborg is a set-up man. Miyanishi and Forkball specialist Ushida are also prominent set-up role pitchers on the list.

Hiroshima’s Ryuji Yokoyama is a surprise, but get used to seeing Kenichi Matsuoka’s name. He is pitchign lights out in the set-up role this year and should be for Chang-Yong Lim for years to come.

The following is a list of WHIP leaders for Japanese baseball relivers. WHIP is the average number of base runners a pitcher puts on base per inning pitched. Reliever is defined as pitching less than 4 innings per outing and the minimum innings pitched is 20. The stats are as of 7/13/10.
